SHELLY
is a magazine holder.
This project was conceived on one of those rare days when I had some extra time in the studio and felt like making something. Because stores were closed, I needed to work with leftover materials I had at hand.
I found plywood sheets of similar size but varying thickness. The idea was to create a shell-like magazine holder through a symmetrical yet organic arrangement of individual “leaves”.
The cut pieces were veneered along the edges and then stained in a gradual transition from light to dark. Depending on the perspective, the object reveals a different gradient.
As no screws or similar fixings were used, the two rods running through the piece became a particular challenge. They define the spacing between the elements while also setting their angle.
